about

JOHAN LENOX: The aggression lurking throughout isomonstrosity came to a head during the composition of this piece, featuring a dramatic call to "wake up" to all the ways the world was changing in the summer of 2020. A chaotic Vic Mensa verse embodied our feelings of claustrophobia and the need to break out of established paradigms. By the end of the track, the music seems to be spiraling in on itself until it closes in on a single point of glitchy madness.

YUGA COHLER: The title alludes to how surreal everything felt, how some of us wished COVID quarantine was just a bad dream we would wake up from.

ELLEN REID: When I first heard the call “wake up,” I knew that phrase would echo throughout. The album begins with the words “wake up,” and [they] come to a fevered pitch in this recording.

lyrics

wake up!
wake up!
wake up!
wake up!
wake up!

hear the church bells ringing
i'm singing freedom
we live in modern enslavement
i'm exercising my demons
i'm splitting the congregation
i done caught the holy ghost on these motherfuckers
the spirit is in me
father to son, i'll bury my enemies
we a dynasty compared to the Kennedys
but more Black, with more straps
i mean they barely could kill me
i'm immortal
bitch you ain't walking in these here Jordans
size nine and a half
tell me who your favorite
i'm Kurt Vonnegut
promise i'll slaughter all 5
running out of the ride
with a Louis Vuitton bag

a lot of yall looking real performative
(doing what?)
sitting, thinking
way done with that
wake up!
sleep
eat
pass out
